Smollett gave essential phone records from the night he was attacked to Chicago Cops , however, the phone records have been disapproved because they are not considered authentic.
"The records submitted were "limited and heavily redacted", police said.
A representative for Smollett says, "Jussie is the victim here, which has been stated by the Superintendent of Police. Jussie has voluntarily provided his phone records from within an hour of the attack and given multiple statements to police. Chicago PD has reportedly informed us that they find Jussie's account of what happened that night consistent and credible".
The representative stated that Jussie's loved ones are working with Chicago PD and they believe that the attackers will soon be located.
"Superintendent Johnson has been clear from day one that Jussie is a victim. We are continuing to work closely with the Chicago PD and remain confident that they will find Jussie's attackers and bring them to Justice", the rep said.
According to TMZ, Law enforcement sources said what Smollett turned in 2 weeks after the attack was a heavily redacted PDF file of his phone bill. The sources explained that PDF could be manipulated, numbers could be adjusted and erased.
The real evidence would either be a download of Smollett's phone or the actual phone bill.
It was reported that Jussie was attacked and the attackers screamed racial and homophobic statement which Smollett's manager claimed he heard as he was on the phone with Smollett at the moment of attack.
