On Thursday, the United States declared it was imposing visa restrictions on Ghana, as reported by Reuters. The U.S is accusing Ghana of failure to cooperating in accepting its citizens ordered cleared from the U.S.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), "U.S Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has commanded consular officers in Ghana to ensure visa restrictions on some sections of visa applicants".
The statement further stated that, " without an effective reply from the African country (Ghana), the aim of this regulation may further reach a large population in the country ".
DHL Secretary, Kristjen Nielsen stated that, "Ghana has disappointed for not living up to its rules under international law to accept the return of its nationals ordered cleared from the United States".
"We think the Ghanaian government will make effort with us to settle these issue as soon as possible", Nielsen said.
