We regard Nigeria's sovereignty - United Kingdom



The United Kingdom (UK) has repeated that it regards Nigeria's self-government and that the country would not intrude into Nigeria's internal affairs.


According to the British high commissioner to Nigeria, Ms Catriona Laing, UK would be installing over 100 viewers to cover 15 states in Nigeria during the general election which is coming up soon in the country.


While speaking as a guest on Nigerian Info FM in Abuja on Tuesday, Ms Catriona revealed the aim of installing the viewers, "It is our job to stand with the people of Nigeria in this democratic journey".

She continued, "As an independent observe country, we regard Nigeria's sovereignty".


"What matter to us is the process. This is why we will be developing over 100 observers covering 15 states to support observer missions from the European Union, United States Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria and other local observers".

"We are confident that many things have been put in place since 2015 to energize the process. We have invested heavily as a partner with the Independent National Electoral Commission and civil societies to make the process stronger", the high commissioner said.
