Former U.S. President, Bill Clinton who was expected to visit Nigeria to manage Wednesday's peace pact signing ceremony between the two leading candidates, President Buhari and Atiku Abubakar has stepped aside.
However, he has decided to stay away from visiting Nigeria following grumblings here and there in Nigeria that the visit could be politically misinterpreted.
Clinton however has wished Nigeria well. According to a statement from the presidential villa, he called President Buhari and wished Nigeria well.
In a statement provided by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adeshina, which was released on Thursday, noticed President Clinton's constant backing for the development of democracy in Nigeria regardless of him not being able to make it for the final endorsement of the peace accord between the two main aspirants.

According to Mr. Femi Adesina President Buhari praised Clinton for his continuous backing for the peace progress of Nigeria under a democratic period. He referred to the former U.S. President as a friend of the country.
"President Buhari guaranteed Clinton of his dedication to free, fair and credible elections in the weeks ahead".
Clinton has wished Nigeria well as her citizens go out massively for the coming election.
