R.Kelly confirms he married Aaliyah at age 15

R.Kelly's attorney confirms that the singer married Aaliyah when she was just 15, he further says his client (R.Kelly) was not aware she was minor because 'Aaliyah lied about her age'.

While speaking on a program "Good Morning America" in order to address the recent issue, that is, allegations of abuse and sexual misconduct made about R.Kelly, Steve Greenberg (kelly's lawyer) made it known that Kelly denied being with any underage girl.

He was asked if his client married Aaliyah when she was Just 15 and he replied - "He was married to her when she was 15", without pausing he said - 'Elvis was married to Priscilla'.

He made a reference to the union of Elvis Presley and wife, who was almost 22 when she married the rock star and which she did with her parents' blessing.

Greenberg further stated that it was Aaliyah who lied about her age.

"Right except my understanding is that she did not claim to be 15. She lied because she wanted to get married", said Greenberg.

'He claims he had no idea', said Greenberg.

Greenberg was asked if Kelly planned to take legal action (concerning "Surviving R.Kelly") and he replied - 'well, hopefully he will sue lifetime for defamation, because people should not be able to do this to someone'.

Was Kelly truly unaware?

Kelly was present alongside Aaliyah during a 1994 interview on BET, where she made mention of her age, 14, plus the fact that she was in high school.
